REACHING HIGHER GROUND: A PATH TO TEACHING THE ADVANCED PILATES REPERTOIRE

CLASS. 01REACHING HIGHER GROUND: A PATH TO TEACHING THE ADVANCED PILATES REPERTOIRE
As more and more people do Pilates over an extended period, so more enthusiasts and professionals are reaching the advanced level repertoire. The advanced and master-level repertoire can and should be viewed as a roadmap to guide one through a life-long study of Pilates. Performing the highest levels of the Pilates repertoire does not mean that you know Pilates – this is a common misconception. The advanced and maters-level work should also not be viewed as a means of “showing off” and become a performance.

The advanced repertoire is the “black belt” of Pilates and should be regarded with the same respect and reverence as a black belt is in the martial arts. The advanced work serves as a goal to which we strive, even if we never arrive.

This workshop is strongly recommended for accomplished and seasoned professionals. Even if you yourself have mastered these exercises, teaching them requires a unique set of skills. This workshop focuses on providing active and hands-on guidance to creating systematic and well-formatted instruction at the advanced level. The goal, as always, is successful and safe practice and teaching.

CLASS. 02FINDING PERFECT PITCH
I have always been fascinated by sound and music. Most of us can hear when a note is flat or sharp, even if we cannot explain it. It simply sounds unpleasant to the ear. Whereas when a singer or an instrument is in perfect pitch it sounds good and feels complete. Of course, a trained musician will hear details far beyond that of a regular person.

Just as in music one must train the ear to hear perfect pitch, in Pilates we must train the eye to see perfect alignment. To identify perfect alignment, we must know what we are looking for. Only then can we identify deviations, understand them, and correct them.

In this workshop we will go back to the basic shapes we are looking for and in so doing rediscover the roots of BASI (Body Arts and Science International) and the evolution of alignment. Once we have a sound understanding of what we are looking for we can begin the journey to cueing for success

Athletic mat class

MATAthletic mat class
I have always felt passionately about the mat work.

Over the years I have taught thousands of mat classes and in the process BASI’s mat classes have become a signature of the organization. This 90-minute mat class will highlight the well-known BASI flow, together with precision and athletic intensity.

As has become tradition since the inception of the BASI Learn From The Leaders (BASI LFTL) conferences in the early 1990’s, the mat class will be a celebration of movement, a toast to the amazing international BASI family and the conclusion of BASI LFTL’22
